Self engineered man made diamonds are often labeled “cultured diamonds” leading customers to believe that they are buying a natural diamond. The fake diamond manufacturing industry can introduce carbon & other elements to increase mass but this lowers the quality of the diamond.
But beware of fakes. For your protection always obtain an original Gemological Certificate from a recognized Gemological Testing Laboratory for all gems sold as “natural” diamonds over 0.5 carats in weight.
